This paper presents the development of cost model for the estimation of capital cost, operational cost and maintenance cost which includes Reactor cost, Blower cost, diffuser cost, Aeration energy, solids production of SBR Plant. However in practice the design of SBR plant is generally performed by the conventional design method. Conventional design method may not be economical for larger flow because it does not use a model-based approach for the design. In previous works it is found that they are focused on the operational optimization. Very few studies applied optimization to the design of SBR. In this paper optimization model is developed using growth kinetics and mass balance consideration with a capacity of 245 MLD. The developed model has been applied to an existing wastewater treatment plant to obtain the optimal design. The cost optimization in terms of savings has been compared between model based design and the conventional design of existing plant. A saving of 4 to 6 % has been found in the cost comparison. Key Words: Sequencing Batch reactor, growth kinetics, mass balance consideration, optimization, AL1TLAB.
